The Ronald Giboney Scholarship for Youth Golf
Ronald (Ron) Giboney, the oldest of the two male Giboney children,  was always a champion for youth athletics and sports. Growing from a basketball player at Illinois State University to coaching youth sports (basketball and football), sports has always played an integral part of Ron's life.

Golf had always been viewed as an "elitist" sport. With a round of golf sometimes exceeding $500, this expensive sport has been out of the reach of many in the minority communities.  While a handful of minority competitors (Calvin Peete, Chi-Chi Rodriguez, Tiger Woods, Harold Varner III) have found success on the PGA Tour and many more people of color have gravitated to the sport, the barriers of entry (cost for golf clubs, lessons, and playing) still make it prohibitive for most.

In honor of Ronald and his focus on youth sports, and her legacy, the Ronald Giboney Scholarship for Youth Golf has been created to provide financial support for young students of a minority background (African-American, Latino, and native American) to be sponsored in youth golf programs. We are working to develop a partnership with the First Tee of America (www.firsttee.org) to provide a structured learning environment for those interested in the game.
